Vice-Chancellor

Dr.M.Balasubramanian has been an effectual and admired faculty in College of Agricultural Engineering, TNAU, Coimbatore. He has 102 Research articles to his credit. He has produced 16 Doctorates, in addition to a large number of PG degree holders. He was aggressively involved in teaching, research and extension work connected to transfer of technology. He was a recipient of ICAR Junior Fellowship with all India rank No. 1. He was also awarded ICAR Senior Fellowship during 1982-85. He has the honor of ICAR's Jawaharlal Nehru Award for Outstanding Postgraduate Agricultural Research - Agricultural Engineering for the year 1996 for the Ph.D work guided by him and won the award of Indian National Academy of Engineering (1999) for the Ph.D thesis guided by him.

After putting in 30 years of service in TNAU, he moved to SRM University, Chennai where he served for 10 years as Principal, Director and Registrar. In SRM University, he has contributed a great deal in support of the extension of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Science and Humanities and Paramedical Sciences. He has also contributed significantly towards achieving high percentage of placement, improving academic standard and streamlining the administration in various Institutions of the Group.

During the span of his career he has attended 75 Workshops, Conferences and Seminars and performed the role of Convener and Chairperson in many of them. He was also a member of Academic Council, Research Council and Extension Council of TNAU. He served as member of Board of Directors, Tamilnadu Agro Industries Corporation Ltd., Chennai. He also served as an expert in Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), New Delhi for the selection of scientists in ICAR. He was responsible for attracting funded Research scheme from ICAR, Central Silk Board and other private agencies. He developed more than a dozen agricultural implements and machinery which were released by TNAU for use by farmers. He attended a training on "Preproduction Developments, Computerized Design and Manufacturing Techniques" in Illinois State University, USA and also in Munich, West Germany.

Born on 02 June, 1948 at Valayapatti near Srivilliputtur in Virudhunagar district, Tamilnadu, Dr.M.Balasubramanian completed his SSLC in CMS High School, Srivilliputtur. He did his PUC in Govt. Arts College, Chennai and joined Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, West Bengal during the academic year 1966-67. After completing his B.Tech (Hons) in Agricultural Engineering in 1971, he joined as Junior Engineer in Anna Farm, Government of Tamilnadu where he served for one year. He moved to Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore as a faculty in College of Agricultural Engineering in 1972. During his service in TNAU, he completed his M.E. He took his Ph.D from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in 1985. He has assumed charges of the post Vice-Chancellor, Karpagam University with effect from 19.11.2012.
