The Department of English which sprouted in 1995, offering Part II English for the first and sophomore undergraduate students has grown into a seed bearing tree during the last 13 years. Presently, the Department of English offers courses from UG to Research level.

Even during the initial stage, the staff of the department showed keen interest in enhancing the language skills of the learners. English Communication for PG's and Bridge Course in English for UG's were conducted. Two books, English Communication Training Manual and a Handbook for Bridge Course in English were compiled by our department faculty. The Department consists of well experienced faculty members. The hallmark of the department is, training staff and students in the art of compeering. Time and again, the staff members participate in seminars and present papers. They have also published articles, poems and the like in journals like THE QUEST, AIVU KOVAI etc.

Academics

The Department offers UG, PG and Research Programmes MPhil (FT/PT) and Ph.D (FT/PT) in English. Literature aims at the enjoyment and appreciation of literary texts, refinement of language skills, cultural enrichment and the like. It nurtures academic and practical learning by tapping the creative skills. Unique projects promote the interest of the students in self learning and acquisition of knowledge.

Activities

Guest Lectures by renowned professors of English and experts in the language are conducted regularly. Every year "Nobel Lectures" are organized in the month of December. The faculty of this department in association with the faculty of the Computer Science department has developed software for the improvement of communication skills.
