The Department of Physics was established in the year 2003. The objectives of this department are: To give an exposure to young students to one of the most important basic sciences, namely PHYSICS, to update their knowledge in the latest fields of sciences, to motivate them in their research activities, to provide efficient and resourceful hands to help in inter-disciplinary areas where basic and advanced knowledge in Physics is utilized and to carry out meaningful research in the fields of condensed matter physics, astrophysics etc.

Academics

The courses offered here help the students to get a good knowledge in the latest advancements in the field. Our qualified faculties make sure to provide the best education to the students. The department offers UG and PG courses and research programs M.Phil and Ph.D.

Facilities

The department has separate Spectroscopy lab, Magnetism Lab, RS Lab and a Solar Lab which will comfortably accommodate students.

Research Focus

The main areas of research carried out in the department are Molecular Spectroscopy, Cosmic Ray Physics, Thin Film Physics and Solar Energy. At present 43 research students (28 Ph.D. scholars and 15 M.Phil. scholars, out of which 14 are full time scholars and 29 part time scholars) working in these fields.

Activities

A National Seminar on Cosmic Ray Astrophysics was held in the first week of February 2010
