Tamil

Since 1997, Tamil department conducts annually an inter-collegiate competition, elocution and versification. Many State Level Seminars have been organized by the department in the last few years on various topics like Creativity in Tamil Literature, Feminism and Folklore. Also the department conduct annually a series of lecture named "POOM POZHIL" Eminent Tamil scholars, well known orators and poets are invited for this function and they offer guidance and motivate the students to participate in such activities.

Academics

The Department offers UG, PG and Research Programmes MPhil (FT/PT) and Ph.D (FT/PT) in Tamil. As the language Tamil subject comes under part I syllabus no detailed elaborate in-depth study is needed in this area. Therefore teaching of Tamil involves practical application. The rich and ancient heritage of the language and its people are underlined wherever and whenever possible. Apart from oral teaching visual aids like pictures, charts, Photos etc used to highlights the theme. The Department of Tamil has five staff members in its fold: Four of them with Ph.D, 1 with M.Phil degree. Tamil Research Centre, an off-shoot literary wing of Tamil department. Tamil staff members handle Tamil paper for all the I year UG and II year Bio Science students. Apart from taking routine academic classes, the department arranges periodically various competitions like elocution, versification and essay writing. Thus the department has shown interest in developing the inner talents of the students and thus it cultivates the aesthetic values.

Activities

Panniru Thirumurai Aivu Maiyam
The research center of 12 sacred books (Panniru Thirumurai Aivu Maiyam) is an important wing of the Department. Our Managing Trustee has a strong vision that our younger generation should be trained in spiritual and ethical concepts too. The above centre tries to fulfill his wish. The centre conducts many seminars, conferences, symposiums, prayers etc periodically. The centre has so far published two booklets and two books. The books "We can live with pleasure on the earth" (Mannil Nalla Vannam Valalam) and "God created me in an able way" Ennai Nanraka Iraivan Padaithanan) are noteworthy. Though religious in nature, they bring out the Social Values of our ancestors.
