Guidelines for Karpagam University Research Fellowship
Introduction
This scheme was initiated keeping in view motivating the young researchers to work in innovative areas. It enables them to undertake advanced studies and research in Arts Science, Commerce, Management, Humanities, Engineering,Pharmacy and Social Sciences in various Departments of Karpagam University.
Objective
The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity to students to undertake advanced study and research in their respective fields leading to Ph.D at Karpagam University.
Eligibility
The upper age limit for Research Fellowship is 35 years for men as on 1 July of the year of application and 45 years for women. The candidate must have Obtained 55% and above in the Master's degree.
Procedure for award of fellowship
Research fellowship are awarded to full-time research scholars of the Karpagam University. Award of fellowship will be made based on the performance in the Entrance Exam and Interview conducted at the time of admission. It will be complimented by the general regulations of the Ph.D Programme.
Nature of Research Fellowship KURF
The tenure of the awards is: Two/Three years (initially for two years, extendable by another one year based on the performance of the candidate). It is expected that the concerned Guide will monitor the progress of the Fellow continuously. The Fellow should not accept or hold any other position, paid or otherwise, or receive emoluments, salary, stipend, etc. from any other source during the tenure of the award. The fellowship may be terminated at any time during the tenure, and the decision of the University shall be final. The tenure of the fellowship is for two years from the date of joining, subject to satisfactory progress report of the Fellow or submission of Ph.D. thesis, whichever is earlier. However, no extension is permissible beyond the total tenure of three years and the awardee ceases immediately after expiry of the tenure. Any claim/reference to this effect will be illegal, and the individual may have to face disciplinary action for such an act.
Financial Assistance
URF: Fellowship @ Rs. 4,000/- p.m. (for initial two years)
Leave
Leave for a maximum period of 12 days in a year in addition to public holidays may be taken by a Fellow with the approval of the supervisor. However, they are not entitled to any other vacations, for example, summer and winter. Women awardees are eligible for maternity leave without fellowship for a period not exceeding three months during the tenure of award on the recommendation of the Supervisor/Head of department of the institution concerned. The period of leave without fellowship will be counted towards the tenure.
Procedure for Release of Fellowship
On receipt of Joining Report (Annexure I) of the candidate together with required documents, the University Registrar's office releases the first instalment of the admissible fellowship to the concerned research scholar. Thereafter, the fellowship is released on receipt of the claim form (Annexure II) in the first week of every month.
Procedure for Monitoring the Progress of the Research
The progress of the awardee is monitored by the concerned Supervisor and Head of the Department. The awardee is required to submit a quarterly progress report of the work by the end of the month of March, June, September and December duly signed by the supervisor, Head of Department and Registrar (Annexure III).
Cancellation of Award
Misconduct Unsatisfactory progress of research work Failure in any of the examinations related to Ph.D. Candidate found ineligible later. If the URF is discontinued before the period of two/three years, the entire amount of the fellowship has to be returned to the University.
Facility
After completion of initial period of two years, the work done by the Fellow will be assessed by a three-member committee consisting of the Supervisor, Head of the Department and an External Expert in the related field. The Superviser shall submit a panel consisting of three experts to the Registrar. The University shall appoint any one of them as expert from the panel or the Vice-Chancellor may suggest any one out of the panel also. The report is to be forwarded to this office for consideration. The report shall clearly state whether the committee recommends for the extention of fellowship. In the event of extension, fellowship will be continued only for one more year.
The University is having a vision to contribute towards research and hence expects from the research scholars as many Papers/Publications as possible along with number of patents.The University expects the research scholars to contribute for the growth of the whole globe
