The Department of Bioinformatics was started in the year 2002 to train the students to meet the demands of bioinformatics companies, research institutes and provide necessary qualified and skilled manpower based on current trends and skill sets required. The Department has well qualified staff with industrial and research experiences. The special support procured by the teaching or research in the department is computing facility, financial support for research, visiting faculties/ guest faculties, subject related special training/ industrial visits, Faculty Development Programmes, for organizing National level Seminars/Conferences and for arranging Industrial visits for the benefits of the students. The department conducted International Workshop on Bioinformatics funded by AICTE and CSIR.

Academics

The department offers M.Sc degree and the focus is mainly on the basics of the biological systems, Applications of Bioinformatics, and the emerging trends in the field. The students are exposed to the understanding of the given field which is a part of the syllabus. The syllabus is designed to help the students understand stage by stage the progressive growth in the field.

Facilities

The lab is fully equipped with the necessary equipments to assist students in practical training. Students and faculty also have access to special facilities like the Media Preparation Laboratory, the Computer Laboratory and the Instrumentation Laboratory that are useful for both teaching and conducting research.

Research Focus

The research in the Department is mainly focused on the Drug Designing, Computational Biology and Developing Algorithms.
